Chasm

and uncoupled a hole collapses
inside deeper, so deep I lose myself
the only thing that gets me back
is leaping to what I’m sure will be
terra firma  – but soon enough –
in spite of my fierce denials
cracks form and soil crumples
something pulling from the bottom
the flighty specter of synthesis
dissolves into bitter and foolish
daydreams and twisted memories
how do I get there? to the solid earth
hills and valleys caves and tunnels
waiting to be explored with another
who finds me as their ideal companion
because my searches always journey
to the inevitable quicksand
